August, 2023 – Our client, a 58-year-old widow of a United Airlines employee who developed a fatal pulmonary embolism, following a blunt force crush injury to his left foot and ankle. Her 59-year-old husband was a ramp employee whose foot was run over by a tug vehicle. He died after extensive medical/surgical care for about 45 days following the accident. The awarded settlement was pursuant to a one-time Section 20 lump sum payment, rather than continued monthly payments over the widow’s lifetime, which would have been limited by her husband’s relatively small average weekly wages.
